Telecare

The use of telecommunication technologies to improve the delivery of healthcare services is an area of research that BT has been working in for a number of years. The research has addressed applications in the delivery of medical services where the clinician is physically separate from the patient, Telemedicine. BT was instrumental in researching the feasibility of, and demonstrating, a number of different telemedicine applications as well as a pilot of a telecare monitoring system. The telecare pilot ran from 1997-1999 and was the first of it's kind in the UK. The valuable expertise BT developed in the integration of telecommunications technologies into care service delivery has been subsequently used in other projects, such as Millennium Homes.
