BT Networker
Project Summary
The BT Networker project offers a proof of concept for creating new revenues for BT through disruptive technologies.
Networker is a peer to peer system intended to work seamlessly with your existing desktop environment, creating new opportunities for communications between participants based on shared interests.
It manages data of specific types which are common to most desktop users, such as Bookmark, Event, File, Contact.
Since it is a peer to peer system it is able to integrate these records, held on multiple different client machines, together into a single continuous information repository. This repository can be navigated according to the relationships found between those pieces of data.
Users can be automatically alerted to information which is relevant to them, regardless of where in the system it is to be found.
The tool is expected to stimulate the adoption of Datasure, Click and Buy and other chargeable internet support infrastructure, which can be carried as a 'payload' of this tool. These chargeable services can therefore exploit the advantages of viral takeup, which this free peer to peer collaborative software may achieve, to deliver these as integrated desktop services.
Trial deployment internally to BT is planned to establish the success of the viral marketing approach.
