BT man awarded honorary fellowship

paulmarrow.jpg Dr Paul Marrow from our centre has been awarded the position of honorary senior research fellow at the School of Computer Science of the University of Birmingham in recognition of his work with the university.

Since joining BT more than ten years ago he has worked on biologically-inspired computing and for a number of years has worked with the School of Computer Science at the University of Birmingham serving on advisory boards and supervising student’s research projects.

“The School has an understanding of the relevance of links between industry and academia and, as a result, has set up a centre - the Centre of Excellence for Research in Computational Intelligence and Applications (CERCIA) to enhance these links. And, because of my industrial background, I have been involved in some of its activities. I have served on the industrial advisory board for the School’s MSc in Natural Computation course, and more general advisory boards, and supervised a variety of student projects.” said Paul. Several years of work led him to this recognition by one of the top British research universities.

Recently Paul has been involved in several collaborative research projects involving many universities and industrial partners. His current area of expertise focuses on self-organising systems and multimedia. Paul said he is delighted by his honorary fellowship. “I feel it recognises my activities over a number of years, together with academics and students from the university,” he said. “It also acknowledges BT's commitment to research in collaboration with a variety of external partners.”
