Simon Ringland

Biography

Simon Ringland graduated from Cambridge University in 1986 with a BA in Electrical Sciences. He then joined BT Laboratories and started work on speech recognition algorithm research.

In 1991 he led the team developing speech recognition for the world's first automated directory enquiries demonstrator system, and subsequently delivered the speech recognition for systems such as BT's CallMinder service.Switching focus to multimodal interface technology, in 2001 he led the Gabrielle team into the BT Brightstar incubator, working on applications to exploit the multimodal UI technology.

Simon leads the Convergence Middleware research theme.
