Michael Fitch

Michael is a recent convert to the research area, having moved here in April 2006. Previously in BT OneIT for 10 years, research and development interests have covered many aspects of radio communications. This has included fixed and mobile systems in both satellite and terrestrial flavours. Antennas, radio-wave propagation, modulation and coding schemes, filters and hardware development have been main areas of activity, branching out into access control, ATM and IP etc when necessary.

He has a first degree in Physics and Maths and was awarded a PhD for research into QoS management over satellite links. Publications include a book on private mobile radio (PMR) and around 10 papers and 7 patents on various radio aspects. He has held several advisory roles associated with International conference technical committees and gives annual guest lectures at the Universities of Surrey and York on radio and satellite systems. He is a member of the IET and IEEE.

Present activities include development of a new modulation scheme for microwave links, assessing the benfits of multiple element antenna systems for broadband radio access and providing radio consultancy around the business for custom systems such as RFID and bids for Government work.
