Convergence Middleware

With the appearance of many new wireless and wired broadband communications channels, and the proliferation of network connected devices ranging from mobile phones to PDAs, games consoles and TV set-top boxes, there are growing opportinities for new and innovative services. However, the potential complexity facing both consumers and application developers is increasing too. If users are going to readily adopt these new services, then the complexity must be hidden from them. Likewise, if developers are to be able to rapidly create new applications, the tools and interfaces must be made available to them to deal with this complexity.

Our team's goal is to ensure that BT can rapidly create innovative converged services. Key client APIs and network capabilities are missing, without which neither BT nor 3rd party application developers will be able to create the wide range of innovative, usable converged services needed. Our task is identify these missing client APIs and network capabilities and work to ensure that they are put in place.
