Nader Azarmi

Head of Intelligent Systems Research Centre - ISRC

Nader Azarmi is the Chief AI Technologist and the Head of ISRC within BT Group. He joined BT in December 1989, starting his R&D work on the application of AI technology to BT's telecommunications network management and next generation work management systems. He went on to create and pioneer BT's highly successful international Intelligent Systems research and development programme covering optimisation, scheduling, agent and soft and evolutionary computing.

Nader has been awarded a number of international and national awards for his work in application of AI in industry, notably the prestigious Royal Academy of Engineering medal (2002), IEE achievement medal (2002), BT's Martlesham Medal (2000), Institute for Operations Research and Management Sciences-INFORMS medal (1999), BT Alan Rudge patent prize (1999), BT Gordon Radley prize (1998), and British Computer Society (BCS) IT medal (1997). He has also led his teams to winning BCS IT awards (2004, 1997), BCS IT finalist medals (2005, 2004, 2003, 1998, 1997), and numerous BT technical awards. He has authored many technical papers and has edited and published a number of technical journals and scientific books. He has also published several international patents. He is a member of ACM and industrial liaison committee of Cork University Centre of Constraint Technology.

Prior to joining BT, Nader spent many years of his academic life as a researcher and (senior) lecturer at Manchester, Essex, Kingston and London universities.
