Intelligent Systems Research Centre - ISRC

BT Group CTO's ISRC is a world-class centre of Artificial Intelligence (AI) research and innovation. ISRC aims to develop novel intelligent software systems and technologies in order to :

  • radically improve the way an organisation such as BT Group operates and employs its mission critical processes, systems and resources, and
  • technologically enable the provision and management of next generation networks and services.

The Centre focuses on AI and Intelligent Systems (IS) technologies such as intelligent agents and P2P computing, intelligent knowledge and ontology management, adaptive and soft computing, intelligent optimisation and scheduling, and nature-inspired computing. These form the technical basis of ISRC's ambitious R&D programme. ISRC's world-class research status and significant technical achievements are evidenced by :

  • 21 international and national IT awards,
  • 25 BT technical awards,
  • over 100 patents granted or filed,
  • over 400 external publications

It has been equally important to the ISRC to turn the results of our world-class technology research programme into major business benefits for BT Group and lines of business. To achieve this exploitation goal we have created a new initiative within ISRC known as the iBusiness to turn BT's AI/IS technical lead into significant commercial advantage, and to support and fast-track the exploitation of our AI/IS technology both within the BT Group and in other markets.

We believe ISRC's intelligent software technology is provising a sound and powerful foundation for building a credible technological strategy and vision for meeting the key challenges facing BT in the 21st century.
